In Los Angeles, LASIK is a common procedure, but not all doctors may warn you of the potential dangers of the surgery.

99% of the time, LASIK surgeries go perfectly well, and there are no problems. However, as with any surgery or procedure, adverse effects can and do happen occasionally. These are a few of the things that may happen:

Some patients do not receive improved vision. In a few cases, performance on the eye chart may be affected by the surgery.

Some patients develop odd visual impairments. Some patients develop glare, halos around objects, or double vision that can seriously affect vision at night. Much of the time if this happens, it cannot be corrected.

Some patients may get really bad dry eye syndrome. Sometimes the surgery impairs the ability of the eye to keep itself moist, causing discomfort or impaired vision, necessitating artificial tears or other form of treatment permanently.

Results might not be as good in patients with very large refractive errors or problems. If you’re severely impaired this way, you still may need glasses or contacts after surgery. Discuss this with your doctor to see to what degree you may improve.

Long-term data just isn’t there. The first LASIK surgery was in 1998 (just 11 years ago), so long-term effects just aren’t known yet.

Make sure you know all the risks before undergoing any medical procedure. As with any medical procedure, you may want to consult with more than one doctor before proceeding. Always put in the due diligence and take the time to make the decision you feel is best.

In Los Angeles LASIK is particularly popular.

LASIK is the most common refractive surgery procedure performed in the world today. Many people don’t know that the name is actually short for “laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis.” It’s a mouthful, which is why people shorten it to LASIK.

What makes it the choice of so many people? Very little pain and quick results (often a day or less) are the two primary reasons for the procedure’s overwhelming popularity.

An instrument called a microkeratome (or some surgeons now use a laser exclusively) is used to start the surgery by creating a thin flap in the cornea. The surgeon moves the flap, then removes some corneal tissue underneath using another specialized laser. This laser uses ultraviolet light with very high precision to remove bits of tissue from the cornea to “reshape” it to make vision more efficient.

This reshaping improves the function of the cornea and retina by focusing light better on both parts of the eye responsible for vision. The flap is then laid to rest over the area where the bits of tissue were removed already, to protect it.

That should give you an idea what goes into a typical LASIK surgery. Read about Los Angeles Lasik options.

Overall, lasik is a procedure that patients tend to be very satisfied with. Even though there are sometimes complications, as there can be with any medical procedure, the success rate is very high and most people who undergo the surgery are happy with it. Everyone is not a candidate for any kind of laser eye surgery, and the decision to have the operation is completely up to your physicians and yourself. It also never hurts to get more than one opinion.

Lasik surgery is not incredibly invasive and the healing process is very fast, two factors that contribute to the popularity, success rate, and satisfaction rate of lasik.

Los Angeles Lasik eye surgeon Dr. Rajesh Khanna has been featured in a local magazine and talks about lasik and where he thinks the procedure is going.

His practice is a popular option in the Los Angeles area. In fact, he has done vision correction surgeries on many well known personalities in LA. His latest procedure, PRELEX, takes 15 minutes and is meant to cure presbyopia. According to a press release, this eye surgery can combat cataracts, nearsightedness, farsightedness, and can be used on those who don’t qualify for LASIK.

There are quite a few vision specialists in the L.A. area, so the best thing to do if you are thinking about lasik in Los Angeles is to consult at least one or two to find the best option for you. There is not harm in a second opinion, especially in matters of health.

There are many highly qualified Los Angeles lasik eye surgeons in proximity to the city. There is a lot of money in L.A. and there are a lot of forward thinking medical minds. The vision care technology in Los Angeles is very advanced. There are lasik eye surgeons who perform all the different manners of Laser eye surgery and can help patients with all degrees of aberrations. The real trick is to find the right surgeon that you want to work with. If you are ever uncomfortable, seek a second opinion.

That is one side of the coin. The other side is that lasik eye surgery is a procedure that directly relates to your personal health and something that can really improve lives for those with different levels of aberrations in their eyes. While some may sit on the sidelines, others will charge forward, realizing that their vision health is too important to put off.

There are other benefits to the procedure that make it a very popular health choice.

One of the main advantages to lasik surgery is that the healing time is relatively quick. Most patients are totally healed after a couple of days.

Here is what is recommended by lasik surgeons for healing after the procedure:

1) Drink Plenty of Liquids to stay hydrated.

2) Don’t Strain Your Eyes by reading or even watching television.

3) Apply medicated eye drops to your eyes to keep them moinsturized. You doctor may give you a prescription for this type of eye drop or may have a different recommendation for you.

4) Of course you will need to have a driver present to take you to the procedure and back to your home where you will recuperate.

5) Listen to the detailed instructions your eye doctor gives you and you should be fine.

Does Los Angeles LASIK eye surgery cost vary by region? It does tend to be more expensive around large cities like Los Angeles and New York because of the higher cost of living in such areas.

The surgeon’s level of skill and experience as well as reputation also tends to affect the price of laser eye surgery. Doctors who are highly sought-after, have big advertising budgets, and are well-known will charge more than their lesser-known counterparts, which is probably obvious to you. You also want to avoid places that may be offering the lasik procedure for too little money–this place might not be up to par. Try to find a happy median, but always try to avoid “bargain” LASIK at all costs. You don’t want to sacrifice your vision in order to save a couple bucks. Your health is worth the investment.

Will Los Angeles Lasik be covered by insurance? Unfortunately, most American insurance companies consider LASIK to be an unnecessary procedure for your ongoing health, which is a nice way of saying they won’t typically pay for it. Some student insurance and health plans, such as Aetna, have been known to cover the cost of LASIK in some situations.

Even if your insurance plan doesn’t cover the laser eye surgery procedure, there are still some steps you can take to offset your LASIK eye surgery costs. For example, see if your employer will partner with a vision center to get discounted rates for their employees, often they can secure a “group discount.” If your job offers a “flex” spending account, you can put money into it each month tax free so that you can use it to fund any medical procedure you may need. If you can plan in advance, then this type of saving plan will help you out and it will lower your tax bill.

If need be, you can always talk to your vision care provider and your lasik surgeon about financing options to pay for the procedure over time.

Though most Americans have to pay for their own LASIK surgery, often the results are worth the expense. It is your health after all, so these types of decisions need to be carefully made. Definitely do your research, consult numerous doctors, and really think about the pros and cons of the procedure.

If you have to wear contact lenses or glasses, then it’s possible you might be interested in Los Angeles LASIK. LASIK actually is short for a more complex term: Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis. It is a type of eye surgery in which an eye surgeron reshapes the cornea in an attempt to improve a patient’s visual acuity. After successful LASIK eye surgery, many people achieve better vision and as a result no longer have to wear glasses or contact lenses.

LASIK surgery is a process that utilizes laser beams to reshape the corneal tissue without disturbing any of the nearby cells. A hinged corneal flap is created with a microkeratome blade or laser (IntraLase method) and after the underlying corneal tissue has been removed, the corneal flap is repositioned. The flap sticks to the underlying cornea naturally and the healing process is very quick. The procedure is painless because your LASIK surgeon puts anesthetic numbing eye drops to kill the pain. The process can be a little uncomfortable because your eyes will be kept open by a device so that the laser can be used unimpeded by closing eyelids.

The greater Los Angeles area is a very large swath of land with incredible variations in income, wealth, and community. This being so, there are areas, such as Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, where Los Angeles Lasik will simply just cost more than in less wealthy areas like Fullerton and Torrance.

Especially when looking at health care, Angelenos from wealthier areas tend to believe that the more a surgeon charges and the location of his office means he will be a better, more qualified Lasik Surgeon. Sometimes this may be the case, but often, in Los Angeles Lasik can be just as good but cheaper in areas that aren’t in the “hills” or on the “westside.”

Eye doctors in the beach cities like Hermosa and Manhattan Beach tend to have higher rents and expenses. Furthermore, they tend to have the newest devices and technology, which actually may work in your favor because you expect a new machine to work better. But Lasik in one of these areas of Los Angeles may possibly cost you more.

Generally, undergoing this procedure with a board certified eye surgeon will run you anywhere from $1,200 to $3,000 per eye. A rule of thumb is that more affluent areas have higher health costs. But you shouldn’t be discouraged to work with an eye doctor whom you trust and think will be able to give you the best service possible. You eyes are extremely important and fragile, so take care of them.

I think it is just helpful to know that there are other options for you and that just because one doctor charges less for his services it doesn’t mean his or her service is inferior to someone who charges more. The difference may only be geographical, not quality.

Just do your research, find the best doctor you can, and talk to them about all of the options you have for your vision care and correction needs. This is how you will be able to make the right decision about lasik.
