99% of the time, LASIK surgeries go perfectly well, and there are no problems. However, as with any surgery or procedure, adverse effects can and do happen occasionally. These are a few of the things that may happen:

Some patients do not receive improved vision. In a few cases, performance on the eye chart may be affected by the surgery.

Some patients develop odd visual impairments. Some patients develop glare, halos around objects, or double vision that can seriously affect vision at night. Much of the time if this happens, it cannot be corrected.

Some patients may get really bad dry eye syndrome. Sometimes the surgery impairs the ability of the eye to keep itself moist, causing discomfort or impaired vision, necessitating artificial tears or other form of treatment permanently.

Results might not be as good in patients with very large refractive errors or problems. If you’re severely impaired this way, you still may need glasses or contacts after surgery. Discuss this with your doctor to see to what degree you may improve.

Long-term data just isn’t there. The first LASIK surgery was in 1998 (just 11 years ago), so long-term effects just aren’t known yet.

Make sure you know all the risks before undergoing any medical procedure. As with any medical procedure, you may want to consult with more than one doctor before proceeding. Always put in the due diligence and take the time to make the decision you feel is best.

Welcome to Los Angeles Lasik. We cover local and industry-wide lasik news.

The first time wasn’t the charm: Atlanta Braves player Brian McCann may require a second LASIK procedure to correct his vision issues. He’s visiting with his eye doctor to determine if he’ll need another surgery.

McCann went for LASIK after the 2007 season after having eye issues and had no problems during the 2008 season. Something may be wrong right now though. He is currently mired in a 1-for-20 hitting slump, and he’s complaining of dryness and eye issues again.

McCain isn’t the only player to have LASIK surgery over the last few years. Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano was scheduled to have LASIK surgery, but decided to put it off until the end of the season.

Dozens of other players have had the procedure done to improve their eyesight or to correct eye issues. It can and has helped many players achieve more success than they otherwise would have.

In Los Angeles LASIK is particularly popular.

LASIK is the most common refractive surgery procedure performed in the world today. Many people don’t know that the name is actually short for “laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis.” It’s a mouthful, which is why people shorten it to LASIK.

What makes it the choice of so many people? Very little pain and quick results (often a day or less) are the two primary reasons for the procedure’s overwhelming popularity.

An instrument called a microkeratome (or some surgeons now use a laser exclusively) is used to start the surgery by creating a thin flap in the cornea. The surgeon moves the flap, then removes some corneal tissue underneath using another specialized laser. This laser uses ultraviolet light with very high precision to remove bits of tissue from the cornea to “reshape” it to make vision more efficient.

This reshaping improves the function of the cornea and retina by focusing light better on both parts of the eye responsible for vision. The flap is then laid to rest over the area where the bits of tissue were removed already, to protect it.

That should give you an idea what goes into a typical LASIK surgery. Read about Los Angeles Lasik options.

We’ve talked a lot about Los Angeles Lasik surgery, but this article is going to be more general. I wanted to write about Lasik eye surgery results.

The healing period after the surgery is very short–one to two days. The vast majority of patients who undergo the procedure don’t need glasses or contact lenses for long distance vision anymore. Even though many people have positive results, it is impossible to know how your eyes will respond to Lasik eye surgery. The more minor the correction in vision, the better the results will be.

No guarantees can be made regarding the procedure. Every single patient has a different experience. Some patients have Lasik performed on them and don’t have to wear glasses or contact lenses anymore. Others will still need to wear glasses in certain situations. There is no Los Angeles Lasik specialist who will guarantee you that you will be able to attain 20/20 vision after the procedure. It’s just not possible.

The majority of people do have improvement in their vision. One other benefit of Lasik is that patients can avoid the glare and inconvenience of contacts and the blocked side vision and dirty lenses of glasses. A popular reason for Lasik is not the severity of the vision problem, but the convenience of eliminating the need for corrective lenses.

As usual, it is up to you to consult with several doctors to see what vision correction procedure is right for you and your situation. Read more of our articles for more Los Angeles Lasik surgery information.
