An Introduction to Lasik Surgery

Filed under: los angeles lasik surgery — Tags: , , — admin @ 5:12 am

LASIK Surgery is a procedure that utilizes a laser beam to modify the shape of the cornea in the eye to improve vision. Lasik stands for Laser-Assisted in-situ Keratomileusis.

In traditional Lasik surgery, a thin flap is cut from the surface of the cornea but is still connected to the eye.  The cornea is folded back to expose the layer of tissue beneath it.  A precision laser is used to remove irregularities on the “stroma” level of the tissue, which improves vision.  The cornea is replaced and the healing process begins.  The best thing about Lasik eye surgery is that the healing process takes only one to two days in most cases.

There are two other types of Lasik surgery in addition to the “traditional.”  One is Wavefront Lasik and another is IntraLasik.

If you are looking for LASIK surgery in Los Angeles, there are many options simply because there are so many providers.  The most important thing you can do when preparing for Lasik surgery is to interview as many vision doctors as possible.  Read as much as possible, do the research, and know what answers you should get to your questions.
